At the weekend, a Socio-Political group, Akwa/Cross Units to Units Pacesetters for Development ( AKWACUPD), tipped the Akwa Ibom North-West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District Senator-Elect, Senator Godswill Akpabio as the best choice for the position of the Senate President in the 10th Senate.
Stating reasons why Akpabio is the best for the position,
The group then appealed to the President-elect, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the National Chairman of APC, and other leaders of the party as well as his former and new colleagues at the Senate to do everything possible to zone the office of the Senate President to the South-South insisting that if Senator Godswill Akpabio is elected he would be a round peg in a round hole.
“We, therefore, urge the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the President-elect, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the National Chairman, and all members-elect for the 10th Senate to rally round Senator Godswill Akpabio and support his emergence as the next Senate President of the. The Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
In a communique issued at the end of its meeting in Cross River State, Calabar, the group pointed out that the returning lawmaker ” is the best person to occupy the office given his antecedents on the grounds of competence, experience and the need for equity, Justice and fair play as the position should be zoned to the South-South region”.

The communique signed by the group President, Comrade Emmanuel Effiong, and Secretary Obong George Orok together with other executive members of the group, Obongawan Nene Ime Umanah, Mrs. Imaobong Obiokon,
noted that it is the turn of the South-South with special preference to Akwa Ibom State to produce a Senate President for the sake of justice, equity, and fair play. since.
The Communique further reads, “It is on records that since 1960 till date, the position of the Senate President is always given to the South East people in Nigeria which is not their birthright, APC should reflect federal Character in their zoning arrangement in 1960

“We warn agents of distractions from the South East who are using the EFCC as a ploy to distract Senator Godswill Akpabio, we maybe force them to mention them by their names if they do not desist from such acts of Pull-Him-Down political strategies and face their campaign with issues, fact and figures rather than the threat of South East Clamour for OBI Interim Government advocacy threat which is dead on arrival plots”.
