The wait is finally over for millions of Nigerian students as JAMB 2026 officially takes shape. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released the full roadmap for the upcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry process, setting clear rules and deadlines for candidates across the country. For many students, this announcement signals the true start of their university journey.

For candidates preparing for JAMB 2026, understanding the official timeline is critical. This year, the board has made it clear that deadlines are final and extensions should not be expected. Missing a date could mean waiting another year, which is why early preparation matters more than ever.
According to the schedule released, JAMB 2026 e-PIN vending begins on January 19, with UTME registration opening on January 26 and closing on February 28. Direct Entry registration will follow from March 2 to April 25, while the optional mock examination is fixed for March 28. The main UTME will be conducted between April 16 and April 25.
One relief surrounding JAMB 2026 is the decision to keep registration costs unchanged despite economic pressure. The base application fee remains N3,500, although the final amount depends on whether a candidate chooses to sit for the mock exam. UTME candidates with mock will pay N8,700, while those without mock will pay N7,200. Direct Entry candidates are expected to pay N5,700 in total.
These costs cover essential services such as CBT center charges and the official reading text. Candidates are advised to avoid paying extra money to unauthorized agents who promise shortcuts, as the official fees are fixed nationwide.
A major change in JAMB 2026 is the introduction of a new reading novel for the Use of English examination. Candidates will no longer be tested on The Life Changer. Instead, the approved text is The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba, a story that explores integrity, leadership challenges, and the popular “Japa” conversation in modern Nigeria.
Importantly, candidates are not required to purchase the novel separately. A hard copy will be provided at the CBT center after successful registration, and candidates should expect multiple questions from the book during the examination.
Beyond dates and costs, JAMB 2026 comes with strict requirements that candidates must meet. A valid National Identification Number is compulsory, and no profile can be created without it. Candidates are advised to confirm that their NIN details match their school records to avoid complications.

The age policy under JAMB 2026 has also been clearly stated. Candidates must be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026. However, exceptionally gifted students who score 80 percent or higher in relevant assessments may apply for a special waiver after evaluation.
