A Knight of John Wesley of Methodist Church Nigeria, Sir Okon Effiong Uyo has died at the age of 79
Sir Okon Effiong Uyo, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary was Nta Nta Okobo Ikpoto Oro, and Uforo Ebighi Edu.
The Knight of John Wesley of Methodist Church Nigeria, who hailed from Ebighi Edu in Okobo Local Government Area, passed away at the age of seventy-nine.
The transition of septuagenarian husband announced in a statement signed by his son, Efiong Okon Uyo, Esquire.
A biography of late Chief Uyo made available to Society news indicates that the Uforo Ebighi Edu was born on 8th July, 1941.
He attended Distract Council School, Okobo for his Primary Education, Methodist Boys High School, Oron Government Secondary School, Owerri, where he obtained the Higher School Certificate, and the University of Ibadan where he was awarded the Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in June 1965.
During his working years, the Ikpoto Oro had been the Chief collector of Customs, Customs Attache Nigerian Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, and the Ministry of Economic Development Water Resource, Cabinet Office as well as Works and Housing.

He had been the Sole Administrator Federal Housing Authority, Director of Political Research, Awards and Constitutional Matters in the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, and also served as Secretary to the Constitution Debate and Drafting Committee where he had responsibility for preparing the guidelines which birthed the 1999 constitution.
Sir Uyo had attended several courses and conferences within the country and abroad either as a member or Head of delegation.
Notably among these were the 37th, 38th, 39th, 40th, and 42th sessions of Customs Co-operation Council held in Vienna, Brussels and Tokyo respectively.
Others were Negotiation on Bilateral Agreements with Guinea, Sudan, China and North Korea on Water Resources and leading the Nigerian Delegation to negotiate bilateral Economic Cooperation Agreement with the United Kingdom and German Democratic Republic.
The family of the deceased Federal Permanent Secretary have paid tribute to Late Chief Uyo as devout Christian, strong believer in leadership by example and equal opportunities as well as pillar of strength and inspiration to colleagues, friends, family, Community and mentor par excellence.
He was one time President of Okobo Development Union, Lagos branch and had played a leading role in the conception, planning and execution of several development project in Okobo including providing electric light to his community.
According to the obsequies released by the family of the deceased, the remains of late Sir Okon Efiong Uyo will be laid to rest on Friday, 12th February, 2021 after a funeral service to be held at Primary School, Ebighi Edu, Okobo Local Government Area by Methodist Church Nigeria at 11am.
He is survived by wife, Lady Bassey Edet Uyo, a Retired zonal Chief Nursing Officer of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos, Six children, Grand-children and other relations.
