Akwa Ibom State Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien has scored the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno high for reinvigorating the Ministry of Lands and Water Resources and its affiliate agencies.

The Head of Civil Service made the commendation at the 2021 Christmas and end-of-year get-together of the Ministry in Uyo.

The number one civil servant who attended the event as chairman on the occasion also commended the Commissioner for interpreting the vision of Governor Udom Emmanuel, especially in the area of workers welfare, and explained that the recognition and presentation of outstanding staff with gift items had introduced a commendable way of relating with workers.

Elder Essien observed that the gesture by the Commissioner which amounted to staff motivation will, in turn, attract maximum cooperation and support from workers.

He encouraged the Commissioner to continue to add value to the Ministry, affiliate agencies, and the present administration and prayed to God to bless him.

Earlier in a welcome remark, the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno expressed appreciation to God for taking the Ministry beyond the level he met it and stated that the event was to appraise performance in line with the core mandate and appreciate those who contributed towards the achievements recorded so far, especially to the Completion Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Pastor Eno said that since assumption of duty as the Commissioner, there has been a deliberate effort at creating synergy with the affiliate agencies; the Uyo Capital City Development Authority, UCCDA, Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited, Akwa Ibom State Rural Water & Sanitation Agency, AKRUWATSAN, and the Land Use and Allocation Committee, among others.

He explained that in order to achieve the objectives of the Ministry, his leadership had inaugurated a Monitoring and Development Control Team and the Land Allocation, Verification & Recovery Committee, and noted that both have recorded successes, including recovery of some government lands.

He said the Ministry has accelerated the approval and release of Certificates of Occupancy to private sector operators and investors in line with the focus of the Udom Emmanuel’s administration, even as the Ministry is currently working on the process of switching from the present analog information system to a digital coding system for land management known as Akwa Ibom Geographic Information System, AKWAGIS.

The Commissioner enumerated other achievements to include the flag off of the Dakkada Luxury Estate project, the facilitation of payment of compensation to the Lagos Fishing Settlement in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area for the area designated for the establishment of Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer Limited, among others.

The event featured the presentation of gift items to outstanding staff members in all the departments as well as the three outstanding Area Planning Authorities.

The high point of the event was the American auction anchored by the Commissioner while the lucky winners smiled home with SoundBox, Plasma TV, and refrigerator.
