Katie Archibald won Great Britain’s first gold medal at the World Championships this year after dominating the women’s omnium.
Archibald finished with 137 points after a measured ride in the climactic points race after winning the scratch, tempo, and elimination races.
Lotte Kopecky of Belgium came in second, with Elisa Balsamo of Italy coming in third.
“I was pretty nervous,” said Archibald, who won her first omnium world title in 2017.
“When I saw the other riders in the scratch race and elimination, I thought to myself, ‘gee, they look fast.'”
“It was like a nice warm-up for the event, especially with the qualifiers, and when the first event goes well as I did with the scratch race, it gives you more confidence to race aggressively throughout the day.”
The 27-year-victory old’s is the latest in a string of triumphs in 2021.
She won the Olympic Madison title alongside Laura Kenny in Tokyo in August, and she followed that up with three gold medals at the European Championships in Switzerland earlier this month.

“It’s been a fantastic year,” Archibald added, who narrowly avoided a crash involving several riders earlier in the elimination race on Friday.
“I race in the Madison tomorrow with Neah Evans, and our qualification event is in 13 hours, so a nice spin, some ice because I hit my knee in the elimination knock, and then just keep going.”
Archibald, who led the points race by 20 points, rode another confident ride to finish 18 points ahead of Kopecky and 21 points ahead of world road race champion Balsamo.
Report Elsewhere on Friday, Ashton Lambie of the United States won gold in the men’s pursuit, while Italy’s four-time champion Filippo Ganna was forced to settle for bronze after failing to qualify for the final.
Lambie, 30, defeated Italy’s Jonathan Milan to become the first American male individual pursuit world champion since Taylor Phinney in 2010.
Jeffrey Hoogland of the Netherlands won the men’s 1km time trial in 58.418 seconds, while Benjamin Thomas of France won the 40km men’s points race.
