Gov. Umo Eno Assures Army of Continuous Support, Declares Opens Chief of Army Staff Conference

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State demonstrated his strong commitment to security during the combined second and third quarters Chief of Army Staff Conference 2024 held in Uyo.

As the Special Guest of Honour, Eno underscored the importance of security in his ARISE Agenda, emphasizing that the ‘S’ stands for ‘Security Management.’ This reflects his administration’s dedication to maintaining safety and order in the state.

Shortly after taking office, Eno established the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, led by retired General Koko Essien, and introduced the Ibom Community Watch (ICW).

This community-based security outfit aims to supplement existing security measures with local intelligence and a visible presence.

Furthermore, the Governor announced the creation of the Joint Maritime Operations/Task Force and the deployment of 14 patrol boats to combat maritime threats such as piracy and kidnapping.

Additionally, Hilux trucks were donated to support police operations. Eno praised the Nigerian Army for its efforts in tackling security challenges and encouraged its officers to remain apolitical and operate within the law.

He acknowledged the establishment of Headquarters 2 Brigade in Akwa Ibom as a significant contributor to the state’s peace and commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Toareed Lagbaja, for choosing Akwa Ibom as the venue for the conference.

Lagbaja reciprocated the Governor’s praise, expressing his satisfaction with the state’s hospitality and the positive relationship between the Army and the state.

The conference focused on addressing persistent security issues, including terrorism, banditry, and the recent #Endbadgovernance protests, with a commitment to enhancing national security.
