Gov Umo Eno to host A’Ibom Corporate Summit Next Year, Receives Award from NUJ

Governor Umo Eno has officially announced plans to host the first-ever Akwa Ibom Corporate Summit in 2025, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at accelerating the state’s development by leveraging the expertise and contributions of Akwa Ibom professionals excelling in the corporate sector.

The governor made this announcement during a free medical outreach program for widows at Ikot Akpa Edok, Ndiya community, in Ikono Local Government Area.

Governor Eno explained that the Akwa Ibom Corporate Summit seeks to bring together accomplished sons and daughters of the state to exchange ideas, explore opportunities, and collaboratively work towards fostering growth and development. He emphasized the importance of viewing development as a shared responsibility, noting that government efforts, when complemented by private sector contributions, can significantly impact lives and enhance economic progress.

During the medical outreach program, the governor commended Emem Usoro, an indigene of Ikono and the organizer of the event, for her selfless efforts to uplift her community. He described her actions as inspiring and urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate such initiatives to drive social change and empowerment.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to rural development, Governor Eno announced several key projects planned for Ikono Local Government Area in the coming months. He also directed the inclusion of 200 elderly men and women from the area in the state’s Health Insurance Scheme for the Elderly, extending the government’s support to the community as part of the medical outreach initiative.

The governor encouraged the people of Ikono to unite and support the government’s Arise Agenda Blueprint, a strategic plan aimed at fostering development across the state.

In another significant development, Governor Umo Eno was honored with an Excellence Award in Leadership and conferred the title of Grand Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Akwa Ibom. The awards were presented during the 2024 NUJ Dinner and Award Night, which marked the conclusion of the annual NUJ Press Week, held at the Emerald Events Center, Uyo.

Represented by Comrade Ini Emem-Obong, Commissioner for Information, the governor expressed gratitude for the partnership and support of the media community.

He commended the NUJ’s tradition of recognizing outstanding contributions among its members, describing it as a morale booster that encourages professionalism. Governor Eno also congratulated award recipients and called for enhanced collaboration between his administration and the press to achieve greater development for the state.

Former Governor Udom Emmanuel, who also received an excellence award, expressed appreciation for the recognition and encouraged journalists to remain steadfast in their role as societal watchdogs.

Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, Chairman of the occasion, highlighted the pivotal role the Akwa Ibom media has played in shaping the state’s progress over the past 24 years of democracy. He urged journalists to continue their support for the current administration in delivering its vision for the people.

Themed “Artificial Intelligence: The Future of Media Ethics and Content Modulation,” the event featured:

  • Discussions on AI’s influence on media ethics and content creation.
  • Awards to outstanding journalists across various categories.
  • A moment of silence in honor of nine journalists who passed away in the course of the year.

The Vice President of NUJ, Zone F, Comrade Opaka Dokubo, commended the leadership of the NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council, led by Comrade Amos Etuk, and advocated  greater leadership opportunities for journalists, citing their demonstrated competence and dedication.

Governor Umo Eno’s leadership approach reflects a deep commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development. The upcoming Akwa Ibom Corporate Summit is set to be a transformative event, fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to unlock the state’s full potential.
