The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, has assured that all projects and activities lined up for the council’s 75th anniversary celebration will be completed on or before December 2026.

Nkom made this known during the April edition of the monthly Covenant Service held at the council secretariat, today Monday 13 April, and as part of activities marking the Diamond Jubilee of the local government.
He disclosed that the council would soon commence the enrolment of youths into truck and crane operation training programmes to position them for employment opportunities ahead of the anticipated opening of the Deep-Sea Port. He urged interested youths to approach the local government council and take advantage of available government initiatives aimed at fostering growth and development.

The chairman also decried the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in gutters, describing it as a threat to environmental sanitation. He revealed that the council is making provisions for proper waste disposal facilities and announced plans to deploy a task force to monitor compliance and sanction defaulters.

Nkom further warned against the vandalization of government property, calling on residents to take ownership of public facilities and ensure their protection. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ongoing rural road grading across the area.
In a homily delivered on the theme, “The Power of Gratitude,” drawn from Luke 17:17–19, Bishop Camilus Umoh emphasized the importance of thankfulness, describing gratitude as a virtue that attracts greater blessings. He commended the council for returning thanks to God as it marks its 75th anniversary and urged residents to shun a sense of entitlement.
The cleric also offered prayers for continued peace, progress, and divine blessings upon Ikot Ekpene and its people.
