In a June 13 letter to a judge, aspiring singer Jocelyn Savage announced that she and the R&B singer were engaged and asked the court to give her a light sentence in her case. The letter was filed by R. Kelly’s legal department prior to his sentencing.
“My name is Joycelyn Savage and I am Robert Kelly’s girlfriend,” she began in a letter. “I am writing this letter to support Robert before his sentencing so that I can explain to the court that I am not the victim the government has portrayed to me.”
Describing her relationship with Kelly as “wonderful”, Savage called the star – who was found guilty of all nine charges she faced, including racketeering, bribery, coercion, seduction, and sex trafficking – of “thing”. The best I’ve ever had. ”
“We have a very special bond and are deeply in love,” she wrote in the letter. “Robert is not the monster the government has portrayed him as. The Robert I know is very sweet, gentle, and friendly.”
Savage continued of Kelly, “He is very determined and focused on his goals and the things that have been said about him about me and other women being held against our will are absolutely untrue.”
The 26-year-old also wrote: “It breaks my heart that the government has created a narrative that I am a victim.”
“I am a grown woman and I can speak for myself, which is why I wanted to take this letter to the court,” she added. “[Kelly] is a big man with a big heart and deserves to be home with loved ones who are ready to support him. Kelly’s high-profile trial, which ended last September after six weeks of hearings, saw dozens of witnesses testify, accusing the “Ignition” artist of luring them into sex when they were minors. The allegations range from at least 1992 to 2017.
Although Kelly denies all charges and previously pleaded not guilty to all charges, he was eventually sentenced to 30 years in prison on June 29, nearly two weeks after Savage wrote the letter. He was also granted five years of probation and a $ 100,000 fine as part of his sentence.
In 2019, Savage appeared in CBS’s Azriel Clary, another of Kelly’s live friends, to deny allegations that they were being held against their will. “It’s just fucking lies for money and if you can’t see it then you’re ignorant and you’re fucking stupid because you want to be everything – because that’s the world we’re in. live,” Clary said during the interview. “Negativity sells, gossip sells, rumor sells.”
