Akwa Ibom is playing host to over 5000 Nigerian Police personnel, sports officials, and athletes who are arriving in Uyo, the state capital for the 2022 Police Games.
In a swift move to ensure states-of-the-arts sports facilities for the weeklong event, Governor Udom Emmanuel inspected the Olympic size swimming pool at the Uyo Sports Stadium earlier Saturday to ascertain its level of readiness for the police games kicking off Wednesday next week.
Assessing the facility, the governor thanked the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, and the police hierarchy for the push which he noted, inspired his government to put up more sports facilities to accommodate the over six thousand athletes expected to participate in various sports activities during the weeklong event.

He gave kudos to the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Elder Monday Ebong Uko, and his team of engineers for effectively taking up the challenge, thereby demonstrating the Dakkada philosophy of the present administration.
The commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko who conducted the governor and other officials around the facility said the swimming pool was standard Olympic size covering 25 by 50 meters in area, 2 meters in depth, and capacity to accommodate about 1,500 spectators under a well-covered seating area.
The Olympic size swimming pool strategically sited within the Uyo Township Stadium is expected to be inaugurated Tuesday next week ahead of the 2022 Police Games which is to commence on Wednesday, 23rd November.
