Activities marking the 35th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State’s creation have commenced with the inauguration of General Hospital, Ikot Abasi
The State Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel performed the inauguration of the well-equipped facility to the admiration of the people of the area and medical experts who described the project as the best, well equipped, and of world-class standard.
Addressing the people, shortly before inaugurating the General Hospital, Governor Emmanuel said by investing in the health sector, his administration was living true to the promise to provide the best medical facilities in all parts of the state for easy and timely access by the people. :
According to Governor Emmanuel, the state took delivery of over 25 containers of medical equipment last year, with thirteen new containers of medical equipment already at the airport for onward equipping of various health facilities across the state, noting that the hospital is equipped with the best ICT facilities was to complement the various other sectoral developments in the area.
Governor Emmanuel made reference to the dualized road from Uyo, the state capital, to Ikot Abasi and other parts of the state as testaments and legacies of his development-driven administration in the past seven years and assured of more in the remaining period.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Augustine Umoh whose ministry supervised the hospital project, appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for prioritizing the health needs of the people of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area by remolding and re-equipping the General Hospital which was built in 1904.
The Member for Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo state constituency in the House of Assembly, Mr. Uduak Odudoh, in a goodwill message re-echoed the appreciation of the people of Ikot Abasi to Governor Udom Emmanuel, pledging their support to his completion and succession agenda.
Goodwill messages were also received from the Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Dr. Emem Abraham, Chairman, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. David Umoh among others.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chairman Ikot Abasi LGA, Mr. Joshua Affia commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for giving the people of Ikot Abasi a befitting Hospital which he recalled, hitherto, was a glorified health post and assured the governor of their support in the governor’s completion agenda.
The ceremony also witnessed the inauguration of a theater building donated by the CEO of Hensek Integrated Services, Engr Uwem Okoko, and the flag off of free medical services to people of the area by Governor Udom Emmanuel.
