Emmanuel Akpan, the current chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria, SWAN has been re-elected to the position for a further three years by the association’s members.
The election, which took place on Wednesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo, was overseen by Honour Sirawo, national president of SWAN, who was represented by the vice president for the south-south, Otuekong Bonny Nyong.
Following the meeting, Emmanuel Akpan was re-elected as chairman without opposition, Anthony Effiong as vice-chairman, Theophilus Udo as secretary, James Akpan as assistant secretary, and Patrick Titus as treasurer.

On behalf of the newly elected executive, Chairman Emmanuel Akpan thanked the association’s members for electing him and his team. He vowed that they would work harder to improve Akwa Ibom SWAN.
“First of all, I want to express my gratitude to God for giving me another chance to lead SWAN’s Akwa Ibom State Chapter.
“I am appreciative of the members for unanimously electing me to a second term. I make a commitment to do more than what my exco and I accomplished in our first term. Our members’ welfare will always come first. “.
The former South-South Vice President of SWAN, Justice Udousoro, heads the Electoral Committee (ELECO), which Akpan also praised for holding a fair and transparent election.

Unity among members, member welfare, good working relationships with state sports associations, collaboration, and partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, led by Comrade Amos Etuk, and improved reporting of state sporting events were characteristics of Emmanuel Akpan’s first term.

The peaceful ceremony, which was followed by a love feast, came to an end when the SWAN executive took their oath of office and received their certificates of return.
