Oscar Pistorius, the imprisoned ex-Paralympic athlete, has been moved to a different facility ahead of a meeting with the parents of Reeva Steenkamp, his girlfriend whom he murdered in 2013.

The meeting is part of a process that could eventually result in the 35-year-old being granted parole.

The South African has been relocated to a location closer to the Steenkamps’ home.

After serving half of his 13-year, five-month sentence, Pistorius is eligible for release.

He must, however, first participate in what South African authorities call “restorative justice.”

As part of this, offenders are expected to speak with their victims or relatives. They must also acknowledge the harm they have caused, according to the Department of Correctional Services.

He was moved from a Pretoria prison to one in Gqeberha, formerly known as Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape.

Pistorius murdered Ms. Steenkamp in 2013 after mistaking her for a burglar at his home in Pretoria.

He fired four shots into a closed toilet door.

He was sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter in 2014, following a trial that was broadcast around the world. Pistorius, however, was found guilty of murder on appeal in 2015, and his sentence was later increased to 13 years and five months.

Tania Koen, Steenkamps’ lawyer, said earlier this month that they “would like to participate in the victim-offender dialogue” if

The lawyer also told the UK’s Daily Mirror that the Steenkamps had received an “emotionally distressing” letter from Pistorius.

The authorities have not set a date for the meeting, only stating that “the timeframe… will be guided by the level of preparedness demonstrated by all participants.”

According to the Department of Correctional Services, people were asked not to put pressure on those taking part to reveal what was said.

Prior to his death, Pistorius was well-known as a Paralympic gold medalist.

His legs were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old because he was born without fibula bones.
