Contractors handling  Road Projects in the State have been advised to take advantage of the Dry season and redouble the pace of work to meet up with the completion Agenda of the present administration.

The Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Finance, Mr Uduak Ududo stated this during an inspection of some road projects in the state.

He said the Committee would not hesitate to recommend the termination of any road contract that fails to meet up with the expectations.

Mr Ududo said that the Committee had resolved to embark on oversight to assess the performance MDAs for which funds have been allocated for projects.

He frowned at the level of work executed by Nigerpet structures Limited at Okoroette, Elile, Amadara Road in Eastern Obolo, saying that the pace of work on the 8.5 kilometres road was below expectations given the funds released to the Firm.

Other members of the committee raised concerns that the firm should be invited to appear before the House for detailed explanation.

The Managing Director of Nigerpet Structures Ltd, Mr Sunday Popoola attributed the delay to the heavy rains and the peculiar terrain.

A youth leader in the Community, Mr Samuel Adasi raised issues bordering on poor handling of the project, violation of local content in workforce and other corporate social responsibility.

At the 14.5 kilometre Airport/Okopedi Road, a dual carriage Road which traverses NsitAtai, Okobo, Nsit Ubium to the East West Road, handled by DPL Construction Limited, members of the Committee took a swipe at the lack luster approach by the Company.

The Supervisor from the Ministry of works, Engr. Asuquo Odiong, Engr. Fred Asuquo and some of the youths in the area expressed displeasure at the pace of work.

The youths said that the host Communities were not carried along in the project execution.
