Akpabio in the Crescendo of National Politics

Must read

Aminu Ebong

To say that the former two terms governor of Akwa Ibom State, former minority leader of the 8th Senate, and immediate past minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio is soaring to a higher altitude in national politics is but to state the obvious in the face of the phenomenal rise and inroad into the real body politics of our great Nation.

Before now, the typical Akwa Ibom politician was a mere hewer of wood and drawer of water. But today Akpabio has broken the glass ceiling bringing Akwa Ibom into the epicenter of Nigerian politics

Events of recent times have undoubtedly proven that Senator Akpabio is not just the most qualified personality to become president of the 10th Senate, but he is widely accepted by the political class across different geopolitical zones of the country because of his antecedents in performance and the public appeal he exudes.

Akpabio’s presence at the banquet organized by Governor Nyesom Wike in honour of the President-elect

National Politics

in Port Harcourt a night ago clearly confirmed Akpabio’s glowing political popularity and undying acceptability by our Nation’s political bigwigs.

Almost all the dignitaries at that banquet were elated when the master of ceremony announced that the president-elect had directed that Senator Akpabio be accorded the honour to speak on behalf of the Senators-Elect.

No sooner than Akpabio started to address the banquet attendees, 41 elected Senators moved majestically in a show of solidarity to join Senator Akpabio on the podium. The hall which was momentarily in subdued silence erupted with people held captive in a  spell of exhilarating ovation. The president-elect was openly seen nodding in vivid admiration.

Akpabio’s speech in the presidential banquet was described by analysts as not only statesmanly but nationalistic in orientation. The show of solidarity by senators elect from YPP, NNPP, LP, and APC showed that Senator Akpabio is an actual pivot of national politics, and has been accepted as the president of the 10th Senate.

In another related development, during a courtesy call on the governor of Cross River State by Governor Ganduje of Kano State, Ganduje disclosed to the people of Cross River State that the majority of northern governors and elites have zoned the SENATE PRESIDENCY to the South-South and precisely to non-other than the former governor of Akwa Ibom State. Senator Godswill  Akpabio. Ganduje referenced Akpabio as the uncommon governor, the uncommon minister who will soon become the uncommon Senate president of Nigeria.

A representative and chief of staff to President Buhari, Amb. Ibrahim Gambari also corroborated  Governor Ganduje’s position.

Undoubtedly, from all indications, Akpabio,’s  Senate presidency is a national project. This is national politics at its crescendo and only political players of premier credentials are eligible for this star-studded elites game.
