The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to recruit Medical Consultants to boost health care delivery.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who announced this during the opening ceremony of a seven day Capacity Building Training for Health Workers on Emergency Protocols reiterated his resolve to provide quality health care services at affordable cost to every residents.
He said that the State had committed huge resources in providing up to date equipment in the health facilities and was set to provide a work force that would put the equipment to maximum use.
While asking Akwa Ibom indigenes as well as none indigenes who are experts in their fields to watch out for adverts as only the best would be selected, Governor Emmanuel hinted that funds had been released for the reactivation of the C.T. scan at the Ibom Specialist Hospital for the training,
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Augustine Umoh explained that in a challenged world, there was need to be alert to those challenges, one of which, he said, was standing up to emergency medical service’s needs.
He held that it was necessary to standardize medical emergency protocols to avoid causing more damage to the patient.
According to the Governor, while government would continue to equip the health facilities, it needed a requisite work force to manage those equipment.
The Governor who held that unemployed skills would go rusty emphasized on the need for the capacity building training on the use of the ECG machine, stressing that government had procured ten ECG machines which would be distributed once they were done with the training.

He thanked the facilitators of the training for their unrelenting partnership with the State in the health care delivery.
In his remarks, the training consultants, Dr. Don Ogu, commended the State government for providing the funds for the training noting that while the programme would not make the participants experts, it would translate to better care at the facilities.
He said that the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel had continued to demonstrate sincerity in providing highest level of medical services to the people of Akwa Ibom State and appealed to the State to open a reference laboratory where hospitals could feed their specimens.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Dr. Patrick Eshiet and the chairman of the Hospitals Managements Board, Dr. David Udo Umoh thanked the Governor, for seeing the need to boost capacity to match infrastructure in the health sector.
The Board chairman specially called on participants to reciprocate government gesture by delivering quality services in their facilities.
