On Christmas Eve of 2023, a mysterious fire engulfed the mansion of the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong, who was the former chairman of the Akwa Ibom state Peoples Democratic Party. The incident occurred at the Shelter Afrique, a residential area, around 9pm.

It is said that a medical doctor went to the residence to attend to her, but there is no confirmation about the doctor’s whereabouts after entering the house. Despite efforts from the fire department, the inferno could not be extinguished, leading to the complete destruction of the mansion.
It’s important to note that an official statement from the police regarding the incident is still pending. However, unofficial sources have provided some details, including the potential presence of four individuals inside the house during the fire.
