Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will return to the ring later this year for the first time since finishing his trilogy fight with Tyson Fury.

The American meets Finland’s Robert Helenius on October 15 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. “It’s been a long journey for me and today it continues,” Wilder said.

Wilder, 36, was stopped by Fury in the 11th round last October as the Brit retained the WBC title.

He was honored with a statue earlier this year in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and says it played a role in his decision to take the fight with Helenius, who has won 31 of his 34 fights. . “I have thought so many times whether I should stay out of business or come back,” added Wilder.

“Once I got my statue in my hometown and saw so many people coming and celebrating with me, it made me feel like my work wasn’t done.”
