The Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has charged Council Chairmen to give preference to people oriented policies and programme in the thirty-one Local Government Areas.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Mark Esset said this during the familiarization meeting of the Committee with the thirty-one local government chairmen. on the issue of the people oriented policies
He also assured Local Government administrators in the state of the House readiness to attend to petition and complaints that arises from their council areas without fear or favour.
Emphasis was made on the role of the House Committee to play a supervisory role in the local Government administration as empowered by law.
The House through the Committee charged council chairmen to be acquainted with the Local Government Administrative Law 2017 to avoid pitfalls while discharging their duties.
The Committee also announced its quarterly inspection of the thirty-one Local Government Council which will commence soon.
Speaking on behalf of the thirty-one Local Government Chairmen in the state, the ALGON Chairman, Mr. Nnamso Robson, stated that paucity of funds to run the affairs in the Local Government Area was a major challenge.
Members of the committee present included Mr. Aniekan Uko, Mr. Aniefiok Dennis, Mr. Victor Ekwere, Mr. Asuquo Archibong, Mr. Effiong Bassey, Mr. David Lawrence and Mr. Usoro Akpanusoh.
Others were Dr. Charity Ido, Barrister Ese Umoh, Chief Effiong Johnson, Mr. Godwin Ekpo, Mr. Udeme Otong, Mr. Idongesit Ntekpere, Mr. Asuquo Nana, Barrister Otobong Bob and Mr. Mfon Idung.
