The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Aniefiok Nkom, has inaugurated a ten-member Central Planning Committee to oversee preparations for the coronation of the Paramount Ruler of the area.
Hon. Nkom Sets Stage for Coronation of Paramount Ruler
The inauguration ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 14, at the Chairman’s Office within the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council Secretariat.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Nkom explained that the decision to constitute the committee was driven by the need to formally crown the Paramount Ruler, accord him full official recognition, and present the staff of office in line with established traditional and governmental protocols.
He further noted that the coronation ceremony would form a key highlight of activities marking the 75th anniversary of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
According to the Chairman, the committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of planning and executing a coronation ceremony that reflects the rich cultural heritage and dignity of the Ikot Ekpene traditional institution. He emphasized that the event must be both historic and memorable, befitting the revered stool of the Paramount Ruler.

The Central Planning Committee is chaired by Engr. Etido Inyang and comprises notable personalities, including Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, His Lordship Rt. Rev. Barr. Otuekong Ukut, and Prof. Felicia Etim. Other members are Obong Paul Wilson, Sir Engr. Peter Akpan, Comrade Uwem Umoinyang, Elder UbongAbasi Equot, and Elder Anietie Udoh.
In his acceptance remarks, the Committee Chairman, Engr. Etido Inyang, expressed appreciation to the Council Chairman for initiating the formal coronation process. He described the assignment as both an honour and a responsibility, assuring that the committee would work diligently to deliver a ceremony that captures the cultural pride and spiritual significance of the Ikot Ekpene people.
He further pledged the committee’s commitment to ensuring that the coronation stands as a landmark event in the history of the local government area.
