David Vanterpool, an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets, has been fined for deflecting a pass during Wednesday’s 119-118 victory over the Washington Wizards.
The NBA fined Vanterpool $10,000 (approximately £7,350), and the Nets were fined another $25,000 (approximately £18,400).
The infringement occurred with six minutes remaining in the game, with the Nets leading 109-103.
Vanterpool reached out and tipped a pass, causing Washington to lose possession of the ball, and officials failed to notice the incident.
Because the Wizards had used their only coach’s challenge during the game, they could only continue playing.
According to their coach, Joseph Blair: “My reaction is complete disbelief.
I’ve never seen anything like that happen in my long basketball career that the referees missed.”
