Nigeria to upgrade database of Orphans in Akwa Ibom State

The Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Mr. Duru John and Implementing Partners on Orphans and Vulnerable Children, OVC, are currently in Akwa Ibom to redesign and upgrade the database of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in the State.

The team was received by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan at her office, Idongesit Nkanga secretariat, Uyo.

Addressing the group, Dr. Adiakpan lauded them for including Akwa Ibom among the six States to benefits from the Data base programming.

She hailed the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and his wife, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel for being passionate about the orphans and vulnerable in the State, and for providing the enabling environment, receptive and peaceful for all and for the ministry to be able to carry out its functions.

On the issue of Orphans and Vulnerable Children,and Database programming, the commissioner urged the team to look out for the street children stating that if they are not evacuated and reintegrated in the society, they might grow up to be hoodlums and bandits becoming nuisance in the society.

Dr. Adiakpan also acknowledged the implementing partners, Center for Clinical Care and Clinical Research CCCRN, who is also a part of the team for partnering the Ministry and providing the Ministry a good database and applications for information.

The Head of the team, Mr. Duru John had said they were in Akwa Ibom, to redesign, restructure and upgrade the database of the orphans and vulnerable in the State, stating that the new feature will be introduced to a broader spectrum.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, also met with the four clusters of people with disabilities positing that there is ability in disability.

Speaking at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, venue for the meeting, Dr. Adiakpan congratulated them for the work done in their different clusters, referring to the leaders as hard working people.

She hailed them for taking part in the advocacy program and representing the State well and congratulated Mr. David, Head of Deaf and dumb cluster on his new appointment with NDDC as a result of his participation in the advocacy program in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Adiakpan appreciated the Governor of the State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for being disability friendly, citing the provision of funds to host the AGM of the Deaf and Dumb in Akwa Ibom State.

According to her, the Governor and wife, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel have brought tremendous change in their lives charging them to dissuade their counterparts to desist from begging on the streets.

She urged them to form cooperative society, stating that they should also learn to assist themselves.

On the issue of joint elections, Dr. Adiakpan assured them that the joints election will hold as lot is being put into consideration in other to attain a successful election.

Speaking at the meeting were, heads of Clusters, Mr. Ubong Ben Akpan, Association of the Blind, Obong Emem Timothy, IDEA, Prince David Polycap, DEAF, Mr. Aniefiok Etuk, NAPWD and Nnene Bassey, Albinism, thanked the State Government and the Ministry for the tremendous support being given to them.
