Many people in some communities in Akwa Ibom have been killed following clashes over portions of land as a result of remapping of the state.
The remapping was carried out by the previous administration of Mr Udom Emmanuel. Ever since then there have been clashes in many communities including Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno, Mbo and other coastal areas of the state.
The destructions of properties in these areas are worth millions of naira.
Remapping: Many killed
However, the visit of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to the centre of the communal clash between Ibeno, Eket, and Esit Eket Local Government Areas was marked by a strong stance against the wanton destruction that has occurred in the areas.
Flanked by Service Commanders of various security agencies, stakeholders from the affected communities, and other government functionaries, Governor Umo Eno spoke both as a peacemaker, in alignment with his religious calling, and as the Chief Security Officer of the State. Governor Eno issued a clear warning to those responsible for the clashes, indicating that the government possesses credible intelligence on their actions.
He emphasized the need for the political gladiators to cease inciting violence and reminded the people of their common ties and interconnectedness.
The Governor also made it known that the Transition Chairmen of the three affected Local Government areas would be removed if such incidents reoccur under their watch. Addressing the issue of the conflict over Stubbs Creek Forest,

Governor Eno clarified that the land belongs to the government, and unauthorized encroachments would not be tolerated.
He highlighted the importance of the forest reserve in generating carbon credits and providing employment opportunities for the youth in the region.
The Governor’s visit to the victims of the communal clashes at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital demonstrated his commitment to peacemaking and his compassion for those affected.
His call for calm, respect for the legal process regarding the new State Map, and assurance of continued security measures underscored his dedication to restoring peace and order in the communities.
