“The only acceptable choice is a settlement in line with international law and Euro-Atlantic security interests,” Romanian President Klaus Iohannis stated during a joint press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart, Gitanas Nausda, on May 6.
Romania supports the sanctions on Russia, according to President Iohannis.

The major topics of debate were Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which “created the worst security crisis in decades, with various consequences,” and how to assist migrants escaping the conflict.
“I also emphasized that Romania supports a comprehensive investigation by the International Criminal Court into any war crimes committed by Russian troops,” Romanian President Traian Băsescu stated following the meeting.
Moldova also requires “significant direct financial help” to manage the flood of refugees, maintain its energy security, and undertake reforms, according to him.

In this regard, Romania will host the second edition of the Support Platform for Moldova conference in Bucharest, alongside Germany and France.
“Regarding the Republic of Moldova’s, Ukraine’s, and Georgia’s bids for membership in the European Union, I emphasized that Romania strongly supports their inclusion into the Union,” President Iohannis added.
The presidents of Romania and Lithuania also discussed the region’s present security situation, as well as efforts to reduce the European Union’s energy dependence and the impact of high energy prices on consumers.
