Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has some strong words for the Nigerian media following his side’s impressive 2-0 win over Botswana on Thursday night.
The holders were criticized for their poor performance in their opener against South Africa in the ongoing 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
However, Waldrum’s team fought back with a spirited performance against the Mares.
Onumonu put the Super Falcons ahead in the 21st minute when she ran past her markers before slicing the ball past goalkeeper Maitumelo Bosija after a superb pass from midfielder Halimat Ayinde.
Substitute Christy Ucheibe put Botswana ahead by scoring the second three minutes after the break. “The media in Nigeria is very negative. We don’t want any distractions in our team,” Waldrum said in the post-match press conference.
“We are trying to qualify for the World Cup and the teams have to be isolated.”
