A three-day National Treasury Workshop with the theme “Covid-19 and the Global Economy Implications on the Nigerian National Treasure” has commenced in Uyo.

Organized by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the event held at the Ibom Hall was declared open by Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The Governor who was represented by Deputy Governor, Moses Ekpo observed that it was reassuring and proactive in Context and breath for Nigeria as part of the global financial structure to look into ways and reasons of repositioning its economy in the post COVID- 19 era, as undertaken through the workshop.

Mr. Emmanuel said it has become imperative to create new approaches to growing the nation’s economy adding that such mandate is to set up a post-covid-19 Economic Advisory Committee.

He listed the recommendation of the committee which his administration is already implementing to include applications of ICT and other tools of technology to stimulate entrepreneurial drives amongst the people especially the youthful populations.

The Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris in his remarks said the workshop was organized to create a platform for brainstorming to effectively manage national economics in the face of pandemics and other global disasters, to enable the nation to overcome challenges and emerge a better nation.

Alhaji Idris called on participants to embrace at the workshop to embrace fruitful contributions with a view to achieving a professional strategy that will help the government maintains it financial operations with accountability.

The Minister for State, Budget, and National Planning, Mr. Clem Agba said the theme of the workshop effectively captures the mood of the nation, given its dwindling revenue profiles and the attendant challenges on the cash-flow occasioned by the post-Covid-19 pandemic.

He expressed confidence that the outcome of the workshops will further aid the nation to achieve its already set road map to reposition the country’s economy.

Speaking at the sideline of the event, the State Accountant General, Pastor Uwem Essien said the event was strategic following the spate of development in Akwa Ibom.

Pastor Essien commended the financial prowess of the state Governor and the equitable distribution of resources in the State.
