As the 2023 House of Assembly elections draw closer with the ruling PDP in Akwa Ibom State warming up for State Assembly Primaries, constituents of Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency have hailed their son Mr Ime Umo from Ibiakpan Nto Akan, Otoro Ubo clan, who has offered to represent his constituents in the 8th Assembly.
Briefing newsmen in Uyo recently, Mr Umo said his Constituents were receptive to his plans to establish revenue generating skills/Food Processing Centres to enhance “Wealth creation, employment generation and economic development”.
Mr Umo who has put in over 20 years in some global ICT brands said during his consultation of delegates in Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara, using the power of visuals via PowerPoint, he took time to explain to them how he would establish the “Revenue generating skills/Food Processing Centres for their benefit.
In a chat with someone media executives in the state capital, Mr Umo reflected on his plans for his people if given the mandate to contest the 2023 State Assembly election in the following words, “I also intend to bring skills development centre as well as a revenue development centre. I will bring in the tailoring aspect. I will ensure that there is a tailoring unit at the skill development centre.
“They will produce boxers, handcare, T-Shirt etc. The other day, I wore a T-shirt made by a First Bank staff ( who later resigned). The guy resigned from the bank work and started a tailoring firm. The skill development centre will also serve as a revenue development centre. The community will give me a site and I will establish the centre there. All those materials that will be produced there would be sold and it will generate money for the community.

“There is also going to be a shoe manufacturing factory at the skill development centre. People are making it big in Ariaria in the shoemaking business. I have a grandson in Lagos doing the same business.
“Someone that got trained in the skill development centre can decide to leave the place and start up his own tailoring business. Businesses such as Inter-switch is owned by a Yoruba man and they are making it big in the business. Same thing with Paystack
“Lastly I talked about the food development centre. There are machines for doing most of these works. There’s a machine that can peel cassava and finally bag it as flour. That machine is not more than $30,000. But when there’s godfatherism it appears like these things are rocket science but it is not.”
Mr Umo says he has come to improve the fortunes of the rural women, men, and youths in his Constituency and with his experience and exposure in the corporate World his targets were not impossible.
He holds an MBA in Marketing and is the CEO of TRAX, a blue chip firm established about three years now by him with the workforce drawn from the Akwa Ibom environment. He says the Revenue generating skill/food processing centres will create employment, create wealth and add value to the rural and urban people of his Constituency.
