The governor of the state of Akwa Ibom has established a scholarship program for 500 underprivileged students attending public tertiary institutions.
The scholarship is valued at $200,000 per person, according to the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who approved it today at the state executive council meeting he presided over at government house Uyo.
This was said in Comrade Ini Ememobong’s briefing to government house media on the results of today’s State Executive Council session. He is the Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
Comrade Ememobong claims that the State Scholarships Board and the Ministry of Education have been instructed to develop and publish a clear procedure for determining the eligibility and criteria for selecting potential scholarship recipients.

Following approval of memos delivered to him at the executive council meeting by the commissioner for works and fire service, the state government approved the construction of some major roads in the local government areas of Okobo, Urue Offong Oruko, and Ini, the commissioner for works and fire service announced.
According to Comrade Ememobong, the state executive council meeting also included ministerial briefings, where commissioners were once more tasked with ensuring the prompt delivery of projects under the purview of the various ministries in accordance with the current administration’s completion agenda.
The governor has re-awarded the contract for the construction of the cottage hospital in Ukanafun, and the contractors are now under a deadline of 130 days to finish the job.
Before the state executive council meeting, the state’s steering committee for Nigeria for Women Project, NFWP, was established. The committee was presided over by deputy governor Moses Ekpo. Later, Brigadier General Abubakar Sadik Mohammed Wase, commander of the Two Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Uyo, was welcomed to the meeting as a mark of respect after returning to his duties in the state in April of this year.
