Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has given directives for the absorption of four teachers on volunteer teaching services at the Ewet Community Primary School, Uruan street, Uyo.

The governor gave the directives when he stopped to assess the progress of ongoing work on the school building project which is temporarily accommodating pupils from Christ The King School currently undergoing remodeling by the state government.

He commended the gesture by the teachers who made themselves available to teach the children when there was no provision for their remuneration and directed their absorption as adhoc teachers with financial benefits from the beginning of the 2023/24 school session, while awaiting recruitment into the state teaching service.

The governor challenged Akwa Ibom people to emulate such gestures which, he said, aligned the fundamentals of the ARISE Agenda.

Governor Eno recalled that the new school compound came as a request by the community whose land was taken by government and lauded the community leaders for their selflessness in placing the interest of the children above personal gains.

On security, the Governor directed the Commissioner for Internal Security to recruit a team under the Neighborhood Watch programme to mount surveillance in and around the school facility to secure the area in liaison with the police, besides the perimeter fencing around the school.

4 Volunteer Teachers

Meanwhile, the bills seeking to establish Ibom Community Watch, Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund and Akwa Ibom State Bureau of Statistics have been signed into law by the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno.

Governor Eno gave assent to the bills during the State Executive Council meeting held at government house, Uyo yesterday following the presentation of the bills by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Uko Udom, SAN.

Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong made this known while briefing government house correspondents on the outcome of the state executive council meeting, the first in December.

The implication, according to Comrade Ememobong, is that the Ibom Community Watch Program and other government proposed establishments now have the legal backing to operate.

Comrade In Ememobong noted that council also gave approval for the implementation of the second phase of the Akwa Ibom State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, AK-CARES following the progress on the implementation of the Social Register.

Comrade Ememobong added that the state executive council session, among other things, granted approval for the establishment of Ibom Model Farm, received reports and reviewed presentations by various ministries including report on the level of preparedness for the 2023 Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival holding at the Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue Uyo.

Already, there’s renewed hope for some degree of calm and peaceful operations in the state waterway as the state government has procured gun boats to beef up security in the coastal areas.

Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, General Koko Essien who made this known while briefing government house reporters on some developments relating to his ministry, said plans were being intensified with the Nigerian Navy for the building of a ferries that would culminate in the commencement of ferry services in the state.
