Scottish Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Eilish McColgan withdrew from next month’s London Marathon due to a medical problem.
The 31-year-old had reactions to refueling during long test trips.
The problem has been identified as rebound hypoglycemia, which affects endurance athletes and leads to decreased blood sugar levels.
McColgan now hopes to make his London marathon debut next year.

“When I run my first marathon, I want to be in the best shape,” said McColgan, who runs at London’s Big Half on Sunday. “When we started preparing for London earlier this year, it was clear that something was wrong with my long runs.
“Refueling in a marathon is such an important part of the race to feel good, so I practiced my long runs and got dizzy that really hit me.
“I was relieved to learn that it is not uncommon in athletes. I am grateful to have a real support team around me that is working to find a fuel solution to this problem and I am confident that we will do it in time.” they did prepare me well for the 2023 London Marathon. ”
McColgan’s mother, Liz, won the London Marathon in 1996. This year’s race will take place on Sunday 2nd October.
