Governor Emmanuel has assured agro-based ventures of support for availability of staple foods in Akwa Ibom State
Governor Udom Emmanuel gave the assurance when he undertook an unscheduled visit to the Green House facility situated within the premises of Victor Attah International Airport.
The Governor while inspecting the two hectres onions, tomatoes and pepper farms expressed delight at the yield of onions on Akwa Ibom soil, against previously held notion that such vegetable could not be cultivated in this part of the country.
He commended the ministry of agriculture for the successful implementation of government’s drive in that direction and directed the commissioner to expand the onions farm.\

Governor Emmanuel who encouraged individuals to engage more in farming, said his target was to ensure food security in the state by the time his administration comes full cycle in May 2023.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Glory Edet said the state government through the ministry was cultivating at least twelve hectres of onions at two locations in the state.
As part of efforts to ensure more than enough in the state, Dr Edet said the ministry of Agriculture was organising trainings to youths from the 31 local government areas on how to successfully raise nursery and cultivate onions.
According to the Commissioner, seedlings would be distributed to the trainees who would then cultivate them in their various local government areas for the crops to spread across the state.
She lauded the state Governor for her drive in agriculture, saying in less than no time, Akwa Ibom would no longer depend on other regions for food, as most food products would be cultivated in the state.
