In what many are calling a divine escape, a British woman narrowly avoided death after missing the ill-fated Air India Flight AI171 by just 10 minutes. The tragic Air India crash, which occurred on June 12, 2025, shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, claimed the lives of 241 passengers onboard and at least 33 people on the ground. While the nation mourns, 28-year-old Bhoomi Chauhan is counting her blessings for a miraculous twist of fate.

Woman Misses Air India Crash Flight by 10 Minutes and Survives

The Air India flight was headed to London Heathrow from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Chauhan, who had checked in online for seat 36G, was on her way to the airport from Ankleshwar when heavy traffic slowed her down. She arrived at the terminal only 10 minutes after Air India closed the boarding gate. Despite pleading with staff, she was denied entry. Minutes later, Air India Flight AI171 was gone — not just in the sky, but gone forever.

“I was frustrated and disappointed when they didn’t let me board. I never knew that moment would save my life,” Bhoomi said. “When I saw the news that the Air India plane had crashed, my entire body froze. I couldn’t believe I was supposed to be on that flight.”

The Air India crash has shaken the country. The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, went down just minutes after takeoff, slamming into a hostel building near B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad. Firefighters, police, and medical teams rushed to the scene, but the wreckage was devastating. Only one person onboard survived—a dual British-Indian national named Vishwash Kumar Ramesh—who miraculously crawled out of the debris.

The tragedy has become one of the deadliest in the history of Air India. Among the 242 people onboard, 169 were Indian citizens, 53 were British nationals, seven were Portuguese, and one was Canadian. The Air crash tragedy also left over 30 families homeless after the aircraft crashed into residential buildings.

As the world processes the scope of the Air India accident, Bhoomi Chauhan’s story has gone viral. Many online are calling her the “miracle survivor”—not because she survived the crash, but because she never boarded the plane in the first place. “I was only 10 minutes late, and that 10 minutes changed everything,” she said, tearfully. “I thank Devi Maa for saving me. It was divine intervention.”

Her family in the UK had initially scolded her for running late but quickly changed their tune after hearing about the crash. “At first, we were upset that she missed her Air India flight. Now we’re just grateful that she did,” her uncle told reporters.

Investigators have launched a full-scale probe into the cause of the Air India crash. Indian aviation authorities, along with British experts, are analyzing the aircraft’s black box. According to reports, the Air India captain sent a mayday signal just seconds before the plane disappeared from radar. The reason behind the plane’s sudden technical failure remains under investigation.

This latest Air crash disaster has reignited public concern over aircraft safety in India. Though Air India has a long-standing history as the nation’s flagship airline, it has faced growing scrutiny over its aging fleet and maintenance practices. Many are now demanding that Air India and other domestic carriers enforce stricter pre-flight safety checks.

Bhoomi Chauhan’s survival story, while miraculous, also highlights how airline policies—like strict boarding times—can sometimes end up saving lives. Had the airline allowed a late passenger onboard, this blog might have been reporting 242 dead instead of 241.

As India continues to grieve the victims of this terrible plane crash, Bhoomi’s story offers a sliver of hope—proof that timing can change everything. It reminds us that life is unpredictable, and sometimes being late isn’t a curse, but a blessing in disguise.
