Nigeria has sanctioned 27 foreigners and 62 Nigerians who recently returned from countries with a high incidence of covid-19 and who evaded safety protocols put in place at the airports for returnees from those countries.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman, Presidential Steering committee on Covid-19, Mr. Boss Mustapha, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.
The PC had on May 1st, issued a “Travel Advisory for passengers arriving in Nigeria from Brazil, India, and Turkey, explaining that such precautionary measures were necessary steps to mitigate the risk of importation of variants of concern and break the chain of transmission in the population.
It was noted that while most of the passengers arriving observed the guidelines, some others foreigners including Nigerians violated the provisions of the coronavirus Health Protection Regulations 2021.

26 of the foreigners are Indians while one is a Dane.
The affected persons arrived in Nigeria between 8th and 15th May 2021, through airports in Lagos and Abuja.
The PSC said they have been declared Person of Interest, on account of posing a considerable danger to public health and for the violations of Nigeria’s Covid-19 protocol by evading the mandatory quarantine period
Members of the public have been advised to be on the lookout for such persons of interest as they constitute an immediate health hazard to society.
They are advised to transport themselves safely to the nearest state public health facility within 48hrs and await further direction.
