President Bola Ahmed Tinubu embarked on a groundbreaking two-day state visit to France, marking the first by a Nigerian leader in over two decades.
The visit underscored Nigeria’s commitment to fostering foreign direct investment (FDI) and strengthening bilateral relations in key sectors, including defense, education, agriculture, energy, and solid minerals.
During a joint press conference at the prestigious Élysée Palace with French President Emmanuel Macron, Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s readiness to create a welcoming environment for investors. He emphasized the “vast yet untapped potential” in Nigeria’s economy, particularly in agriculture and fisheries, citing the country’s rich natural resources and strategic geographical position.

“Nigeria’s financial sector is evolving and flourishing,” Tinubu said, inviting French enterprises to leverage this progress. He specifically pointed to opportunities in agriculture and fisheries, mentioning Lagos’ success in taming the Atlantic Ocean to boost fishery investments. He assured investors of a seamless experience, stating, “It shall be easy in, and easy out.”
The Nigerian president also called on the French government to assist with training programs aimed at developing Nigeria’s youthful population. This, he said, would ensure the country’s growing workforce becomes a cornerstone for sustainable development.
A major focus of Tinubu’s visit was education, as he reiterated his administration’s resolve to address the issue of out-of-school children in Nigeria. He detailed plans for innovative return-to-school initiatives and skill development programs aimed at fostering educational access for all.
“Development hinges on a well-educated populace,” Tinubu told Macron, highlighting the government’s strategies to significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children.
On security, Tinubu emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing terrorism and other security challenges.
