A well crafted plot to discredit the Ward Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the camps of some gubernatorial aspirants in Akwa Ibom State has fallen flat on the face.
In their strategy book, they laid ambush to the entire process leading to the ward congress with the hope that PDP will make mistakes or ignore certain aspects of the guidelines, but were beaten to their game as the party followed through every step on the way to the congress.
Disappointed that the ward congress was conducted across the 329 wards of the State without hitches and with total complaince with the guidelines of the party, they are now crying blue murder, where non-existed.
Reports from all the wards in the state indicated that the ward congress was not only peaceful, but the exercise was attended massively by members of the party.
Ahead of Saturday’s ward congress to elect ad-hoc delegates that will vote in the primaries of the party, the camp of one of the guber aspirant had drawn up a plot to discredit the exercise using a broad based media approach.
Part of their plot was to create situation rooms in two radio stations to monitor the exercise and reports coming in will be negative, giving an impression that the exercise did not hold.
The national media were to feast on it, painting the exercise as a flop.
There was also the online part of the plot, which was to go to the three senatorial districts in teams, ward centres, doing live coverage.
The aim was to make sure that the ward congress was discredited and a situation of chaos was painted to the extent that the PDP could not conduct ward congress.

The alternative plot was to do parallel congress in wards they have strong support base.
Their parallel congress would have been promoted as the authentic exercise. A list of ad-hoc delegates which they had already drawn up would be presented to the necessary quarters and published copiously in the media. But all that also failed.
Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has applauded the peaceful and equitable conduct of congresses for the three-per-Ward ad-hoc delegates election across the State.
Speaking at the QIC Group School, Awa Iman, in Onna, where he joined other members of the PDP in Awa Ward 1 for the exercise, the Governor commended the impressive turnout of party faithful and the brotherhood exhibited in the exercise.
He congratulated the trio who emerged winners at the Awa Ward 1 congress in Onna and other wards accross the State and expressed hope that the delegates will represent their constituencies well in the upcoming party primaries.
