Primary and secondary schools in Akwa Ibom have reopened for the second term of the 2020-2021 Academic Session.
The reopening came about one week after the first term holiday under the adjusted school calendar dictated by COVID 19 outbreak that disrupted academic activities for much of last year.
On the resumption day pupils and students of public and private primary and secondary schools trooped to their schools where studies began in earnest.
COVID 19 safety procedures were largely complied with.
The state Commissioner for education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet had visited many schools across the state.
Among the schools the commissioner visited were Aka Community secondary school, Uyo, full life international Secondary School, Rayfield International School, Christian Secondary school and Uyo High school in Uyo.
Mrs. Etiebet told starwitness News correspondent that she was impressed that primary and secondary school abided by the state government’s timetable on the reopening of schools.
She reminded school authorities, parents and children of the target set by Governor Emmanuel under the Akwa Ibom State Education roadmap that students must score high in public examinations.
Mrs. Ante advised the teachers to see the students as their children and be conscientious in dealing with them.
She also noted that COVID 19 was real and implored teachers and students to adhere to COVID 19 safety protocols.
In her comment the Head Teacher of Rayfield International schools, Mrs. Paulina Ekpo and Vice Principal of Full Life international schools, Mrs. Precious Aka told starwitness News that they were impressed by the passion of the Education Commissioner in ensuring that Akwa Ibom Children were given the best Education.
The school Heads pledged their commitment to giving the children sound guidance for academic excellence.
