The Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Mrs. Ime Effiong Charles, has taken a decisive step toward the implementation of the new Bye-law on road naming, street identification, and house numbering in the council area.
Abak Council Chairman Inaugurates Committee
A statement signed by her Press Secretary, Mr. Akaninyene Essang, disclosed that the Bill for a Bye-law to provide for the Naming of Streets, Roads, House Numbering and Road Closure in Abak Local Government Area has now been signed into law.
To ensure smooth execution, the Council Chairman formally inaugurated a Committee to drive the implementation process, with the Vice Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Dr. Mfon Udoudom, serving as Chairman.
The committee’s terms of reference include:
- Conducting on-ground assessments of areas of concern,
- Identifying priority zones for road and street naming, and
- Designing an inclusive framework for house numbering across Abak.
In her address, Mrs. Charles reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to the Bye-law, describing it as a transformative policy that will enhance accessibility, strengthen emergency response services, improve property documentation, and boost the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the council.

“With the inauguration of this Committee, Abak Local Government Area is set to embark on a historic process that will reposition the council for modern development and sustainable growth,” the Chairman declared.
Speaking to newsmen after the inauguration, the Committee Chairman, Dr. Udoudom, announced that the committee will commence its field assessment on Monday, 15th September, 2025. He further advised residents, landlords, business operators, and stakeholders seeking enquiries or wishing to provide relevant information to contact the Office of the Secretary to Abak Local Government Council.
