Myanmar military authorities arrested former British Ambassador to Myanmar Vicky Bowman and her husband.
She was accused of violating visa rules and helping her husband stay in Myanmar, charges that could lead to five years in prison.
Ms. Bowman was ambassador to Myanmar from 2002 to 2006. She is married to Htein Lin, a Burmese artist and former political prisoner.
She the director of the Myanmar Center for Responsible Business, based in Yangon. The British Embassy says it provides them with consular support.
The MCRB presents itself as “an initiative to promote responsible business practices across Myanmar”.

It cooperates with the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB) – whose aim is “to integrate respect for human rights into everyday business”.
Myanmar’s military regime is accused of widespread human rights abuses.
Earlier this month, the generals extended their state of emergency until 2023 as the country remains torn apart by internal fighting. The junta took power last year after overthrowing the democratically elected government of Aung Sung Suu Kyi.
