At least 1,950 Akwa Ibomites are to receive ten thousand naira monthly as beneficiaries in the twelve months Social Transfer Scheme of the state government.
Another 1,560 indigenes are to be engaged to perform menial works, earning a monthly stipend of ten thousand naira each under the Labour-Intensive Public Workfare Scheme of the present administration.
The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who announced while presenting the 2023 estimates to the house of assembly, said the schemes will be implemented under the pro-poor expenditure programme of the state government aimed at social development and poverty alleviation.
In the Livelihood Grant Scheme, the governor said 975 indigenes will be captured for livelihood support and this, he noted, will attract soft skills training and a one-off payment of not less than ₦190,000 naira each and is targeted at self-employed youths of Akwa Ibom State.
Governor Emmanuel confirmed that these and other schemes in the package will kick-start within the year as part of his social investment and poverty alleviation programmes.

The Governor reviewed last year’s budget which had a total approved sum of ₦631.881 billion naira with a recurrent expenditure of ₦302.963 billion and capital votes of ₦328.918 billion naira, saying his administration has recorded remarkable achievements in industrialization, health care delivery, aviation development, agriculture, education, road infrastructure among others.
For the 2023 fiscal year, he said Government has proposed a total budgetary outlay of N 697.005 billion naira, christened Budget of Completion.
A sectoral allocation of the 2023 estimates shows that fifty point six, four, four billion naira is set aside for the education sector, thirty point four, nine, two billion is to go into health care development, fourteen point one, two, nine billion naira is earmarked for the agriculture sector among others.
Governor Emmanuel thanked legislators in the seventh assembly for their support so far even as he anticipated more such support for the timely passage of the 2023 estimates.
