The State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has made a case for Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, to increase its intervention funding and projects to tertiary institutions in the country for improved quality of education.
Governor Emmanuel raised the issue when the accreditation team of the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, led by the Director of Polytechnic Programmes, Mr Ngede Ogoh, visited him at Government House Uyo.
The governor maintained that fees paid by students in public tertiary institutions, especially in the state, were not enough to maintain the infrastructures in the institutions and called for more support by TETFUND and other interventionist bodies to bridge the funding gap and enhance the standard of Education in the country.

The Governor said his administration will continue to invest in the education sector as part of manpower development and skills acquisition efforts of the government, and announced an increased subvention to Akwa Ibom state university, AKSU, effective 1st July 2022.
The Director of Polytechnic Programmes in the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, Mr Mgbede Ogor, said his team was on an accreditation visit to the state Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, and called for more interventions to facilitate the accreditation of all programmes of the institution by the Board
Mr Ogor, who commended the state government for the provision of infrastructures at the state polytechnic, however, emphasized the need for more investments in skills acquisition programmes in tertiary institutions in the country.
