The continued media attacks on the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, by some individuals in Akwa Ibom have garnered condemnation from some Nigerians, who view such actions as detrimental and shameful.
They suggest that the media assault may be orchestrated by politicians engaging in a campaign of defamation against the distinguished public figure.
This conflict, characterized as “a state at war with itself,” has tarnished the reputation of Akwa Ibom and casts doubt on the spirit of unity and harmony among the various ethnic groups in the state.
Media Attack on Senate President
Hamza Bello, hailing from Zamfara State, expressed disappointment in witnessing the disruption of unity and love in Akwa Ibom, a state renowned for its solidarity since its inception.
He emphasized that past governors and current leaders have championed peace and reconciliation, making the current divisive environment around Senator Akpabio a cause for concern.
Bello, in a conversation with Starwitness News, conveyed his disapproval of the situation and singled out a group identifying as the Akwa Unity Forum (AUG) for their divisive actions.
Bello advocates Akwa Ibom citizens to celebrate the achievement of holding the esteemed position of the third-ranking official in the country, occupied by their own son, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He implores the people to extend the necessary cooperation to Senator Akpabio to ensure his success in office rather than engaging in destructive attacks.
On the other hand, Mr. Boniface Friday from Nsit Ubom Local Government believes that those criticizing Akpabio today are individuals who have benefited from his generosity and leadership.
Despite the current disparaging remarks towards Akpabio, Mr. Friday attributes these reactions to the Senate President’s exceptional character, love, and dedication to the Akwa Ibom populace.
Mr. Friday encourages the state’s natives to uphold the legacy of their forefathers instead of contributing to divisiveness.
He labels the unsubstantiated accusations against Senator Akpabio as unjustified and emphasizes the need for unity and respect amongst the people of Akwa Ibom.
