Rapid gunfire erupted in an area densely crowded with restaurants and bars in the early hours of Sunday, sending people fleeing across the streets.

When officers responded to the gunshots, they encountered a “very huge throng,” according to police chief Katherine Lester.

In the aftermath of the shootings, no suspect has been apprehended.

Chief Lester described the scenario as “really terrible.”

Investigators had arrived at the scene, according to the officer, and he begged the public to come forward with any information that could help identify those responsibly.

The shooting happened around 2:00 a.m. (09:00 a.m. GMT) near the intersection of 10th and K Streets, near the Golden One Center, where the Sacramento Kings play basketball.

It’s also only a few blocks away from the state Capitol.

Sergio, Pamela Harris’s 38-year old son, was shot and died outside a nightclub, according to her daughter, who called her around 02:15.

“She stated that he was no longer alive.

I’ve just passed out “At the scene of the incident, Harris informed Reuters.

“I can’t go until I figure out what’s going on.  There’s no way I’m leaving.  It appears to be a dream.”

Kay Harris, 32, said she was sleeping when a member of her family contacted to report her brother had been murdered.

According to the Associated Press, she believed he was in London, a nightclub on 10th Street.

She admitted to frequenting the club and describing it as a hangout for “the younger crowd.”

After receiving a call about the gunshot from a city council member, community organizer Berry Accius arrived at the scene at about 02:30.

He was cited by CBS News as adding, “The first thing I saw was like victims.”

“I observed a young girl with a lot of blood on her body, a young girl removing glass from her, and a young girl shouting, “They killed my sister!”

The tragedy is guaranteed to exacerbate the ongoing debate in the United States regarding gun violence and the prevalence of lethal firearms.

The number of dead and injured, according to Mayor Darrell Steinberg, is “impossible to grasp.”

“Rising gun violence is a plague on our city, state, and nation,” he said, adding that he supports any efforts to minimize it.

“I’m heartbroken and furious,” city council member Katie Valenzuela, who represents the area where the incident occurred, told to reporters in a heartfelt statement.

“Our community deserves better than this,” she added, promising to do everything she can to ensure that young people “don’t get shot down on K Street while out having fun.”

According to the Gun Violence Archive website, firearms are implicated in around 40,000 deaths in the United States each year, including suicides.
