His Royal Majesty Owong (Dr.) Effiong Bassey Archianga, National Life Patron of Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON) and Paramount Ruler of Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has added a Professorship feather to his academic achievements.
Dr. Archianga received the honor from the prestigious Saint Thomas-a-Becket University in Canterbury, England, on Saturday, February 5, 2022, during her 2021/2022 Conferment of Honour/Convocation for students and professionals under the institution’s African Educational Services.
The event, which took place at the University of Uyo’s Onyema Ugochukwu Hall in Akwa Ibom State, also included the induction of eminent personalities into the hall of fame of the UK-based institution.
Prof Sir Paul Hanson, Director of African Studies, acknowledged in his welcome speech that the graduands have been found worthy in character and learning.
Prof Hanson went on to say that HRM Archianga and other professorial and doctoral awardees had passed the institution’s merit list as top scholars due to their achievements and portfolio of academic works.
“St. Thomas a Becket University, Canterbury, United Kingdom, is a multi-disciplinary school and one of the world’s oldest, with a distant learning arm that extends to Nigeria.”
The Open Heavens Ministerial College is fully affiliated with and has a significant impact on the Christian Education Department.

St. Thomas Becket University in Canterbury is concerned with comprehensive education and a positive demonstration of academic prowess.
“Those on our list of awardees were carefully chosen without regard for bias or personal application.
This college has chosen Dr. Efiong Asukwo Eyefoki, Dr. Effiong Bassey Archianga, and Dr. Iwara Abam Iwara for Professorial awards “He stated.
“By this conferment, they shall henceforth be officially by law be credited and recognized as per these awards and titles here-in-fore,” he declared.
HRM Dr. Archianga, who also served as Chairman on the occasion, thanked the institution for the award and reassured it of his commitment to its academic pursuits and development in his remarks.
The Royal father praised the university’s high standards, emphasizing that “the exercise (conferment) today is not just an investiture of bogus title but a conferment of due status and honour to the awardees that have the requirement of acceptation or rejection.” The monarch, who is also the Chancellor of the University, urged all awardees to be prepared to defend the honors bestowed upon them with all abilities.
“Under my leadership, the Ibeno people have donated sizeable parcels of land with unfinished buildings for the permanent site of St. Thomas-a-Becket University in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, and Africa,” he said.
Archianga also sought approval for a program affiliation between the University of Uyo and St. Thomas-a-Becket University.
“This will go a long way toward alleviating the hardship experienced by our sons and daughters who seek admission outside the State due to the limited admission quota allotted to your University, as well as creating employment for our unemployed graduates and others in the State,” he added.
The St. Thomas-Becket University, Canterbury, was founded in 1170 AD and is internationally accredited by Lutheran University, France, as the educational arm of the Wesley Synod International Missions.
