The home game was a dominating performance for the Seasiders but was largely marred by missed chances and stalling tactics from the visitors.

Within the opening ten minutes, Kolawole Daniel opened the scoring for Wolves after bouncing off Babatunde Damilare’s shot on target.

In the 12th minute, Ekene Olisema almost doubled the Seasider’s lead with a brilliant header from a free kick.

The effort, however, went just short. Eight minutes later, Tega Ebetomame missed a goal-scoring opportunity after hesitating to kick into the box. His goal was successfully blocked by the Rovers FC defence.

Minutes before half-time, Damilare and Olisema had their shots on goal blocked by the sturdy Rovers FC defenders.

In the 56th minute, Ebetomame, who was free in the penalty area, headed a shot into the arms of Rovers FC goalkeeper Nwakama Edwin.

Six minutes later, Warri Wolves substitute Philip Archibong nearly scored the insurance goal after brilliantly sending the ball over his marker in the box but the shot was blocked. The game was subsequently stopped, according to the delaying tactics of the guests. There was a heated moment of disagreement between the race officials and the Rovers team.

Rovers FC were reduced to ten men after Jonathan Osondu received the marching orders for making some nasty remarks to the referee.

Before play finally resumed, Rovers FC goalkeeper Edwin was given a yellow card for causing the delay in the previous match.

It wasn’t even a minute before the Wolves received a penalty after the resumption of play. Tega Ebetomame came forward and converted to give Warri Wolves a 2-0 cushion.

In the 78th minute, Babatunde Damilare fired a good pass into the box but fired straight at Rovers FC goalkeeper Edwin.

A minute before the final whistle, Archibong received a pass on the edge of the box and ran into the box.

He scored but his goal attempt was saved by Edwin to make it 2-0 in favor of the Seasiders.

Wolves will be out on Matchday 24 as they take on Bayelsa United.
