Mr. Trump, according to Liz Cheney, the Republican vice chair of the committee, “lit the flame of this attack.”

The disturbance, according to Democrat Bennie Thompson, put American democracy in jeopardy.

On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed Congress as lawmakers met to certify Joe Biden’s election victory.

The Democratic-led US House of Representatives select committee launched its probe on Thursday evening by releasing footage from interviews it conducted with members of Mr. Trump’s inner circle after nearly a year of research.

The schedule was chosen to appeal to large evening television viewers across the United States.

Former US Attorney General Bill Barr said that he reminded the former president twice that he had lost the election and that his charges of fraud were false.

“We can’t live in a society where the incumbent administration survives in power solely on its unfounded belief that the election was rigged,” the former attorney general said.

Ivanka Trump, the ex-daughter, of the president’s testified at the hearing, saying she “accepted” Mr. Barr’s rejection of her father’s conspiracy theory.

When told that rioters were clamoring for Vice President Mike Pence to be hanged for refusing to stop the election results, Ms. Cheney relayed an account in which Mr. Trump said that Vice President Mike Pence “deserves it.”

Mr. Trump called the House probe a “political fraud” before it started on Thursday evening, the first of six scheduled sessions this month.

Barack Obama, the former President of the United States, has hinted that he may run for President again in 2024.

He continues to promote unsubstantiated claims that the previous election was tainted by rampant voter fraud.

Democrats are in charge of the House committee, which was constituted after Republicans resisted attempts to establish a completely independent investigation.

Only two Republicans, Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney, who are vehemently anti-Trump, are participating.

The committee’s purpose is to present a complete assessment of not only the violence on January 6th but also the “organized, multi-step campaign” to “overturn” the presidential election results in 2020.

Members intend to issue a report and potentially hold another hearing in September to summarize their findings and make recommendations for election change in the United States.

“Jan 6 was the conclusion of an attempted coup, a brazen attempt, as one writer described it shortly after Jan 6 to topple the administration,” said Mr. Thompson, the committee’s chairman, and a Mississippi politician, at the hearing.

The violence was not unintentional.

It was Trump’s final act.”

Ms. Cheney, the committee’s vice chair and a Wyoming lawmaker said: “Those who stormed our Capitol and fought law enforcement for hours were inspired by President Trump’s claims that the election had been rigged and that he was the rightful president.

“President Trump invited the mob, gathered the mob, and ignited the attack.”

Ms. Cheney stated that he never asked law police to guard the Capitol, but rather it was Mr Pence who did so.
