The allegations against Pastor Imoabasi Jacob regarding his involvement in the potential sale or concession of the Ibom Power Company have sparked widespread concern among various groups and patriotic individuals in Akwa Ibom State.
The proposed takeover by Savannah Energy/ACCUGAS, a company primarily focused on gas supply and oil-related ventures, raises significant doubts about their expertise in operating a power generation facility, which could jeopardize the company’s operations and infrastructure.
Mass Protest Eminent in Akwa Ibom
In response to these allegations, Comrade Daniel Ekwere, the State Chairman of the Federation of Informal Sectors Employers Association of Nigeria and the National Chairman of the National Artisans, Traders, and Allied Technicians Association (NAKATA), has expressed strong opposition to the purported sale or concession of this vital state asset.
In a recent emergency meeting, his group unanimously resolved to organize a large-scale protest against any attempts to transfer ownership of Ibom Power Company to an external entity lacking relevant experience in the power sector. Comrade Ekwere emphasized the need for Governor Umo Eno to prioritize the welfare of Akwa Ibom State residents by resisting any pressure from Pastor Imoabasi Jacob and his associates to pursue the sale or concession of Ibom Power Company.

He warned that failure to heed their concerns would prompt a mass mobilization of Akwa Ibomites and Nigerian youth to demonstrate against such dubious schemes.
The group’s Chairman underscored the importance of peaceful and persistent advocacy, urging Governor Umo Eno to uphold ethical governance practices and address the looming unemployment crisis in the state.
He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to pursuing legal and peaceful avenues to voice their objections, stating their readiness to escalate their protests to the Government House and the State House of Assembly if necessary. Evidently, the collective resolve of concerned citizens and organizations to safeguard the interests of Akwa Ibom State against potential exploitation underscores the imperative for transparent and accountable decision-making processes regarding the future of Ibom Power Company.
