Akwa Ibom government has moved against illegal occupants of government land

Following the move, Akwa Ibom government through the Commissioner Ministry of land and water resources, Pastor Umo Eno, has put in place a six man committee to ascertain the actual position of government lands in the state with a view to correcting perceived anomalies.

The six man committee, drawn from the ministry of lands and water Resources, Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue service and office of the surveyor general was inaugurated at the conference room of the ministry.

Pastor Eno said the land allocation verification and recovery committee is to carryout investigation and complete the assignment within two months while defaulters would be given a window of 90 days to pay all outstanding fees and charges or forfeit their plots.

The Commissioner explained that this became necessary as the ministry has observed that some lands allotted to investors and individuals have been used to achieve their purpose without payment of the required statutory fees to government according to law while some in most cases are being abandon.

In a remark, the chairman Akwa Ibom Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Okon Okon described the initiative of the ministry as a turning point that would revolutionize land administration in Akwa Ibom.
