Akwa Ibom State University has admitted a total of 293 new students into the 2021/2022 academic year for Post Graduate programme of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Nse Essien announced this at the matriculation ceremony of second Batch of Post Graduate students held at the Main campus in Mkpat Enin.
He said that of the number, forty seven students are for Ph. D, one hundred and ninety MBA/MA/MSc while fifty six are PGD students, adding that this year’s intake represents about a ten point eight seven per cent increase over that of the previous year.
Professor Essien said the University has commenced the development and deployment of its e-learning Platform to aid learning activities in this COVID – 19 times and also give way for the commencement of the Distance learning centre of the university.
Professor Essien noted that in spite of the challenges brought out by the pandemic, all the infrastructural development projects at the permanent site of the university are progressing according to schedule including the administrative block of the school of post graduate studies which is near completion.

He congratulated the fresher for gaining admission to pursue various postgraduate programmes at the university, saying that it demonstrates a clear indication that they believe in the quality of teaching and learning being offered and are poised for an exciting academic experience.
The Vice chancellor tasked the matriculating students to venture into research areas that will add value to the economy of the state and Nigeria at large, adding that the institution has resourceful lecturers who are poised to help them achieve success.
Professor Essien urged them to be guided by the rules and regulations governing the institution.
He commended governor Udom Emmanuel for his support and commitment to the development of the university including the construction of the road network to open up the permanent site of the main campus of the university, which leads to the postgraduate Students Hostel, and Administration bock as well as other structures in the university.
The ceremony which was attended by principal officers of the university, parents and guardians of the PG students witnessed taking of matriculation oath.
Some of the matriculating students pledged their readiness to learn and contribute their quota to solving myriad of challenges confronting society through academic research.
