A northern group, the Arewa Youth Assembly, gave the presidentl Muhammadu Buhari an ultimatum on Wednesday to fire National Security Advisor Major General Babagana Mongonu (retired), or face mass action.
The group said failure to sack the NSA  before Wednesday would keep them occupying the presidential mansion until Monguno was fired.
In this regard, the group had written a letter to the police, Federal Capital Territory, a copy of which was obtained on Sunday by newsmen in Kaduna.
The organization, made up of young people from the 19 northern states and Abuja, had issued a 14-day ultimatum in Buhari on 1 August. The ultimatum expires on Wednesday.

The letter, addressed to the director of administration, Presidential Villa, was entitled: “Notice of Peaceful Protest Against the Country’s Growing Insecurity and the Urgency to Sack the National Security Advisor” and copied to the National Security Advisor, the Director of the Department of State Services and Police Force of Nigeria respectively, FCT commands.
He reminded authorities of the previous 14-day ultimatum given to the president, but noted that after it expired on Wednesday, they would occupy the three-armed zone, Abuja.
The letter read in part: “The Arewa Youth Assembly, an umbrella body of 157 youth groups with a parliamentary leadership system, wishes to inform you of our decision to organize a peaceful protest in the Three Arms Zone after the expiry of the two-week ultimatum. issued to National Security Advisor, General Babagana Monguno (retired) to resign for his failure to devise a viable strategy to tame the growing insecurity plaguing northern Nigeria.

“We are aware that Buhari has responded to calls from Nigerians to replace the then heads of service. We also found that the changing of the guard produced little or no significant improvement in the security situation in our country. “It is therefore our considered opinion that the NSA, which is able to advise the President on a viable model for eradicating terrorist elements, may have run out of ideas or had none at all.
“As lovers of Mr. President, wanting him to deliver a safer and more prosperous Nigeria to his successor within a few months, we have decided to organize a massive peaceful protest in the three-gun zone to reiterate our call to the NSA to resign or be fired. by the President. ”
Meanwhile, in a statement by Assembly spokesman Ali Mohammed, released in Kaduna  the group described the NSA as the worst the country had produced in terms of “results” since the era of General Aliyu Gusau. . (retired). like the NSA.
According to the statement, for the past seven years, the current NSA has only monitored the murders of innocent Nigerians, with nothing to prove.
This, the group noted, was reason enough for Monguno to resign if he was in a (other) healthy country, but added that, despite the NSA’s poor performance, he still comfortably held a position while the terrorists “butchered” the Nigerians. . They also reminded the President that today the same Nigerians who supported him in the elections were killed.
