The Coastal Community Youth Forum (C.O.Y.O.F.) – a pressure group in Eket Senatorial District, has raised the alarm over what it described as a calculated attempt by some political jobbers and scammers to link former Deputy Governor, Obong Nsima Ekere, with the 2027 Akwa Ibom South Senatorial race. In a statement issued by its National President, Elder Mfon Emmanuel Ekong, the group frowned at a recent report in The Post Newspaper of Friday, August 29, 2025, which claimed that “Nsima Ekere has been endorsed for the Eket Senate race.”
Group Warns Against Embarrassing Obong Nsima Ekere with 2027 Senate Slot
C.O.Y.O.F. described the publication as false, mischievous, and a deliberate plot to lure Obong Ekere into what it called “a political misadventure,” insisting that such a move would undermine the entrenched rotational arrangement in the Senatorial District.
The group explained that, by the existing zoning principle, each Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom South takes its turn in the Senate for eight years (two terms). Presently, the incumbent Senator from Mkpat Enin LGA, in Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, is only serving his first term and is expected to complete a second, having shown competence and visibility at the red chamber.
According to the group, the zoning arrangement within the Federal Constituency itself further strengthens the case for stability, noting that Ikot Abasi LGA currently produces the Member representing the Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, while Eastern Obolo has its share with the Member of the State House of Assembly. Mkpat Enin, it stressed, is therefore rightly occupying the Senate seat and is on course to retain it for another term, just as Ikot Abasi did in the past.
“It would amount to standing logic on its head to contemplate Ikot Abasi LGA producing both the Senator and the House of Representatives member in 2027, leaving Mkpat Enin with nothing, despite being the largest LGA in the Federal Constituency,” the statement read.
C.O.Y.O.F. accused the promoters of the purported endorsement of engaging in political sabotage, describing them as “scammers notorious for luring unsuspecting politicians into political casualty with fake endorsements and empty promises.”
The group, therefore, urged the public to disregard the “false campaign” and cautioned Obong Nsima Ekere to remain vigilant against what it called “destructive voices seeking to railroad him into an unnecessary contest.”
“The future of Akwa Ibom South must remain guided by the principles of justice, equity, and peace. At a time when other Senatorial Districts in the country are using parliamentary experience and continuity to leverage development, no right thinking person will sit back and watch some jobbers try to create confusion in Akwa Ibom South. We will not mortgage our political stability and experience on the altar of selfish manipulations,” the statement concluded.
